EVENT DETAILS

Freedom Swim 2017 is now over, but the details below will give you an idea of what next year's event will be like!

Kickoff Party!
Sunday March 19, 2017 4:30-6:30 pm
Play N Wisconsin
3919 Parmenter St, Middleton, WI 53562

The Kickoff party is a chance for the swimmers (and their parents) to be encouraged and learn more about how they will be helping fight slavery by doing Freedom Swim! We’ll talk briefly about the issue of modern-day slavery, IJM, fundraising, and certain Freedom Swim event details. There will be snacks, team photos (bring props to make them fun!), and plenty of time to PLAY on the equipment at Play N Wisconsin! It is not required that swimmers attend, but it is helpful and a lot of fun! Not yet registered, or still thinking it over? That’s OK, join us!

Freedom Swim 2017!
Saturday April 8, 2017 10:00am-12:00pm (lunch following)
Middleton High School Pool
2230 Bristol St, Middleton, WI 53562

Youth ages 6-18 are invited to register online for Freedom Swim. Organizers place swimmers into eight teams of 8-12 swimmers each (we try to keep kids with their friends as much as possible!) — one team per lane. Swimmers raise donations — either flat amounts or pledges per lap (here, a “lap” is a pool length) — during the weeks leading up to the event (download pledge sheets). Every donation helps IJM, no matter the size! If the swimmers average $500 each in donations, we will actually reach our crazy-high goal of $45,000! But we don’t want to put any pressure on our swimmers’ families — do whatever you feel comfortable with for the fundraising. Keep in mind, though, the highest two fundraising teams will be awarded prizes!

On event day, check-in opens at 9:00am. Swimmers, please arrive before 9:30 to meet with your team for a photo and plan how to divide your lane/time. At least one swimmer from a team must be in the water at all times during the two hours in order for that team to qualify for prizes, but each swimmer may choose how much to swim. Team members will work together to make sure there’s a comfortable number of swimmers in the lane at a time. UW Swim Team members will count laps for and encourage the teams. And our MC will announce fundraising totals throughout the event so the swimmers and spectators can hear how they are turning laps into freedom! After the first hour of swimming, swimmers will take turns getting a free snack in the lobby. And after the second hour, a yummy lunch will be provided for our young heroes by generous local sponsors! During the event, Crescendo Coffee Bar will be selling coffee and food to spectators.
